A new Harris Teeter grocery store will anchor the Blue Ridge Shopping Center to be built next to Blue Ridge Builder’s Supply on Rt. 250, according to the project’s developer, Great Eastern Management Company. The lease was signed at the end of August.
Site work is scheduled to begin this month and the store is expected to open in late 2008 or early 2009. The store is intended to serve shoppers living in western Albemarle County as well as nearby areas of Nelson County. The public is invited to a groundbreaking ceremony Sept. 21 at 10 a.m.
In addition to the Harris Teeter store, the shopping center will include approximately 11,000 square feet of small tenant shops and a parcel that could accommodate a bank or restaurant.
The North Carolina-based grocery chain operates 161 stores in seven Southern states as well as distribution centers in Greensboro and a dairy and ice cream plant in High Point. Locally, it has stores at Barracks Road Shopping Center and Hollymead Town Center. The company is expanding in the Washington, D.C., area and the Outer Banks.
Great Eastern Management Company has developed, leased and managed commercial and residential properties in the Charlottesville area for over 30 years. The company also manages office buildings, shopping centers and multi-family residential properties in Harrisonburg and Lynchburg.
